FRANK FANNON IV GRADUATES FROM SORENSEN INSTITUTE OF POLITICAL LEADERSHIP

Alexandria, VA - Monday, January 26, 2009 - Frank Fannon IV, a candidate for Alexandria City Council, recently became a 'Class of 2009' graduate of the University of Virginia's Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership conducted at James Madison's estate in Montpelier.

"I enjoyed reinforcing my campaign knowledge together with other Virginians seeking political office ranging from the local level to seats in the United States Congress," said Fannon.

"We dedicated ourselves to the training program over four days, reviewing campaign ethics standards and developing strong campaign operations. Similar to the experience I look forward to in becoming a member of the Alexandria City Council in May. It was an excellent opportunity to show mutual respect for individuals from all parties as we moved together toward graduation," added Fannon.

From the Sorensen Institutes' website:
Former Governor Mark Warner has commented that, "This organization is incredibly important.  Sorensen has become the model of successful bipartisan leadership training for the nation."

At the heart of every Sorensen program are three essential themes: ethics in public service, the power of bipartisanship, and a concentrated study of public policy issues.  The Sorensen Institute has more than 1,000 graduates of its various programs.  Seventeen alumni have been elected to the Virginia General Assembly, sixteen of whom currently serve-two in the Senate and fourteen in the House.

FRANK FANNON IV KICKS OFF CAMPAIGN FOR ALEXANDRIA CITY COUNCIL

SUPPORTERS PACK MURPHY'S IN ALEXANDRIA
TO ENDORSE FANNON

Alexandria, VA - Sunday, January 18, 2009  - Francis H. "Frank" Fannon IV, a fifth-generation Alexandrian, proudly kicked off his candidacy for Alexandria City Council, on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Murphy's in Alexandria.  Fannon was introduced by past Alexandria City Councilman and former Virginia State Senator Robert L. Calhoun.  Standing before an estimated crowd of almost 175 people, with former Alexandria Vice Mayor Bill Cleveland in attendance, Fannon spoke as to why he is best positioned to become a Councilman for the City of Alexandria, highlighting his campaign theme of 'Alexandria, It's our Business'.

"As a local businessman and community leader I've been dedicated to this city my whole life," Fannon said in his speech, adding, "Each of you here tonight is a stockholder of this city.  We have 134,000 shareholders that have a say in how this business is run.  As your City Council member I want to serve on the Board of Directors of your business."

"Alexandria is one of the best and safest cities in Virginia and we are all fortunate to be Alexandrians.  However, we have challenging times ahead of us given the state of our economy," Fannon noted.  "Economic development is the foundation of our future.  Solid businesses, selling goods and services across our city, from the West End to Potomac Yard, stretching to the riverfront in Old Town, will bring increased tax revenue to our city.   A business-friendly community that promotes development is a win-win for everyone; it generates new revenue to increase our tax base, retain and create new jobs and provide physical improvements to our city.  I will be the bridge between private parties and our city, forming private-public partnerships that seed new economic development."

"The election is 112 days from now.  Winning as a Republican hasn't been done in almost a decade, but I trust the people of Alexandria want a balanced Council where decisions are made with every consideration on the table.  At times I may be the voice of opposition, but the Council is democracy in action.   We are a team of individuals with unique talents and viewpoints who have been elected to make the most effective choices on behalf of our citizens," said Fannon.

Fannon currently serves on the Board of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and the Friendship Firehouse. He is a 2005 graduate of Leadership Alexandria and is active in several civic organizations: Alexandria Rotary Club; Alexandria Sportsman's Club and the Sons of the American Legion of Post 24 at Gatsby's Tavern.
